About Dundee

Your trusted partner in landscape design

For us, trust means everything. Awards are great and all, but we’d much rather build your yard than one that will hopefully be featured in a magazine spread. We promise we won’t lay the first paver or plant a single bulb until we’ve gotten to know you and your family.

Family owned and nurtured

Dundee was built from the ground up as a family company, and has grown over the years to become the well-respected brand it is today. When you partner with us, there’s a good chance you’ll interact with one of our 2nd or 3rd generation owners.

Our history

Our humble beginnings

In 1946, lifelong friends Ray Sackter and Bob Neumer founded Dundee Nursery & Landscaping Co. in Fletcher, MN, after proudly serving in the U.S. Army (10th Mountain Division) during WWII. Contrary to popular belief, there is no “Dundee” family. Rather, legend has it the nursery was named after Ray and Bob put the names of different junipers in a hat and drew one out. (We’re just really glad they didn’t end up with the One-Seed or Drooping varieties.)

A man stands behind a miniature wooden windmill in a plant nursery filled with various shrubs and bushes. He wears a white shirt and leans slightly forward, looking at the camera. Rows of potted plants extend into the background. The photo is in black and white.

Ray was an active member of the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association, where he served as President from 1979–1980. Through his dedication to horticulture and landscaping, he strove to make the world around him a more beautiful, enjoyable place to live. Bob loved what he did as well, and was dedicated to helping the business continue to grow throughout the years.

In 1957, Dundee welcomed a new business partner in Jerry Theis. Jerry had worked for Dundee for several years before becoming an official third partner. As he liked to say, he “grew” with the business. In 1978, Bob retired from the business, and Ray did the same the following year, leaving the Theis family—Jerry and his wife, Elaine—as the sole owners.
